The egg vintage chair

Egg Chair by Squint

Let’s just be clear on one thing first, before you get your hopes up. This egg chair, though gorgeous, is a madly expensive, (and I mean expensive!), unique work of art. Unless you have a minimum of £3000 (that’s$6000!) to spend on a recovered vintage chair don’t even torment yourself by visiting the web site where you will find:

Vintage Egg chairs to commission from £3000.

along with lots of other gorgeous re-covered vintage goodies that you absolutely can’t afford, but we can dream, right? (£200 for cushion ! ) This is turning into more of a nightmare than a dream..!

Squint – the web site and the shop

Sculptor and painter Lisa Whatmough opened her shop Squint in East London about three years ago.She was a collector of antique textiles which she began to use to re-cover vintage furniture in a very modern take on patchwork. The shop recently moved to bigger premises at 178 Shoreditch High Street, London. Shoreditch is becoming a very trendy area of London :-)

Who do you sell Shabby Chic Furniture to?

I’ve just spent the morning doing the rounds of some gorgeous Shabby Chic blogs and Etsy shops for a blog post next week. (Sneak a preview in our Shabby Chic Friendfeed Room) Some of the work I’ve seen is just as gorgeous and stylish as this chair yet most of it is very modestly priced.

I wonder if you are under-selling yourselves ladies? Rich people love Shabby Chic furniture and accessories too y’know!

  1. That is one amazing looking chair!

  2. Sarah Volker says:

Very nice looking chair. The colors on it are very nice though if you have eyes that strain easily you might want to put on sunglasses.

  3. What?! Speak up! I can’t hear you over the chair….

  4. Lol – yes it is a little ‘cheerful’ perhaps but on a grey London day it looks great :-)

  5. It is definitely a work of art and a labour of love. It takes time to put something like this together. It’s a great way to use up odd pieces of fabric, too. I love vintage chairs, they have so much character and personality. Great to see something that is not just another High Street clone. Long live individuality.

  6. I agree – a work of art. Personally I love it. Vintage chairs are fun aren’t they? I loved egg chairs ever since I talked my Mum into buying me one for my 12th birthday. It was a mustardy orange and I thought it looked terrific with a dark green & red gonk cushion against my dark red feature wall. That was just before my Laura Ashley phase! I wasn’t always into Shabby Chic furniture :-)
